Conducted an evaluation of a maternal and child health project in Ethiopia. Assessed whether the project successfully contributed to a shift in social norms around birth and birth preparedness. Analysed interview data with mothers, mothers-in-law, fathers and health extensions workers. Wrote evaluation report.

Managed evaluation of a three-year pan-African journalism training and media capacity building project with training hubs in South Africa, Uganda, Senegal and Tunisia, designed to to improve reporting on illicit financial flows and the oil industry. Responsible for research design, training of African research consultants, fieldwork management, analysis and reporting.

Managed two surveys in Chad and Niger for a USAID peace-building project. Responsible for survey design, staff management, fieldwork implementation, analysis and reporting.
Also conducted analysis and reporting of survey data from Burkina Faso, and provided fieldwork oversight, analysis and reporting of focus groups on mobile money in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Led cross-cutting research on maternal and child health in India, Bangladesh, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Afghanistan for a £90 million, five-year strategic grant from DFID. Oversaw qualitative formative research and designed quantitative baseline surveys.

Designed and managed research in Cambodia and Bangladesh to inform project design and assess the impact of projects on health, governance and education – including a £14 million DFID project which made English learning accessible to 24 million Bangladeshis through mobiles, TV and newspapers. Supervised a team of six full-time researchers. Oversaw implementation of depth interviews, focus groups, panels and a quantitative survey of 7500.



Research Officer, BBC Media Action
September 2008 - July 2010 (UK)
Designed and managed research to assess the Serbian media’s coverage of EU integration, including focus groups in five regions of the country, and content analysis of 38 print, broadcast and online media outlets. Conducted interviews with senior media stakeholders. Wrote report for the Serbian government.

Deputised for research manager on Africa Talks Climate – the most extensive research ever conducted on the public understanding of climate change in Africa. Managed fieldwork in Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo; supported fieldwork in a further eight African countries. Trained a multi-national research team in qualitative data analysis. Quality controlled analysis and writing of ten country reports and an executive summary.

Designed research instruments, analysed data and wrote reports on Iran journalism training project.

Analysed data from a content analysis examining reporting on the G8 summit in the print media of six African countries. Produced a donor report. Consulted on research design for a journalism training project in Mozambique.
